A Welcome Letter from one of the founders of the new Manitou Arts & Cultures Committee:
Hi there,
My name is Jerry Golick. A couple of weeks ago I wrote several posts on Facebook announcing the formation of the Manitou Arts and Cultures Club, as part of the AALM. Since that announcement there have been a few changes to how the club will be operating which I would like to relate.
Before I do I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself to those of you whom I have not yet had the good fortune to meet. So here goes…
My wife, Sandy Baylin, and I live on the north side of Lac Manitou within walking distance of the city hall. We started renting in Ivry in 1998, and purchased our home in 2003. Since 2008 we have been living up here pretty much full time. My wife is a retired CÉGEP and pre-school teacher, and I am a mostly retired IT worker who specialized in data communications, systems analysis, and technical training.
Nowadays we spend a great deal of our time hiking, kayaking, snow shoeing, and skiing. When the weather is inclement I turn to woodworking, indoor gardening, and gaming. Sandra’s indoor passions include reading, and of course the world of art, painting in particular. As some of you may know, she is an accomplished artist. We both love to cook, watch documentaries, and enjoy a warm fire on a chilly evening.
And with that done, let me return to MAC.
Earlier this year the President of the AALM, Michael Prupas, approached me and asked if I would be interested in heading up a club which would focus on bridging some of the perceived gaps between the various communities within Ivry. I agreed, and after some discussions, have been joined by Gabi Opas, Veronica Baruffati, Allan Coopersmith and Howard Stotland. Collectively we are the managing committee for the club (aka MAC).
Our original plan was to have a separate Facebook Page devoted to MAC. However, after many discussions it has been decided that MAC will find its home on Facebook within the newly reorganized Lac Manitou AALM group. As of 03DEC the MAC Facebook Page will be deleted, and all MAC related information will be found on the Lac Manitou Facebook group, as well as on the AALM web site.
More about MAC and its goals can be found here.
We have already scheduled our first event, a book review with local Laurentian author Ann Lambert. Details can be found here.
In the coming weeks expect to see more event announcements! They will be posted here, but also on the AALM web site. In addition, those of you who are members of the AALM and participate in the AALM Community mailing list will also receive announcements via email.
Note: While MAC is part of the AALM, all Ivry residents are invited to join and participate. We wish to be as inclusive as possible.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly here on Facebook, or reach out to any other members of the MAC committee.
I am looking forward to meeting some new people over the coming months! Please join us for one of our upcoming activities.
Jerry Golick
